Moving your domain from 123-reg

A transfer moves the domain name. Your website and email are a separate choice:

How it works

Get your domain ready to leave 123-reg

.com, .net, .org and most others: unlock it and get its transfer code (also called an EPP or auth code).

  1. Make sure the domain is unlocked.
  2. In your Control Panel, choose "Manage All" next to Domains, pick the domain, then "Transfer to Another Registrar".
  3. Continue (you may be asked for a verification code). 123-reg shows the code on screen and emails it to the domain's admin address.

.co.uk and .uk: there is no code. Unlock it first, then ask 123-reg to change the IPS tag to ENOM. Some providers refuse the tag change while the domain is still locked, without saying why.

  1. In your Control Panel, open the domain and choose "Transfer to Another Registrar".
  2. Enter the new IPS tag and select "Complete Transfer".
Order the transfer with us
Put the domain into our transfer page. We confirm the price with you before anything is charged. A .co.uk or .uk moves free, because the UK registry doesn't charge for it.
Give us the transfer code
Once the price is agreed, we'll ask you for the code. (A .uk needs no code — the tag change is enough.)
We take it from there
We'll confirm when the transfer has started and again when it's complete. A .com usually takes 5–7 days. A .uk can arrive within minutes of the tag change, and usually within a day.

What 123-reg charges to leave

123-reg's help pages don't mention a fee to leave. We never charge you to leave us.

Worth knowing

  • 123-reg removes the domain's DNS and forwarding 48 hours after a .uk tag change. If your website or email relies on their DNS, have it set up elsewhere first — we can help.
  • A .com or similar newer than 60 days, or within 7 days of expiry, can't be moved out yet.
