Moving your domain from GoDaddy

Before you start: Where will your website live?

A transfer moves the domain name. Your website and email are a separate choice:

How it works

Get your domain ready to leave GoDaddy

.com, .net, .org and most others: unlock it and get its transfer code (also called an EPP or auth code).

  1. In your Domain Portfolio, open the domain and make sure it is unlocked (the lock setting is under Transfer; unlocking can take up to 90 minutes).
  2. Choose "Transfer to Another Registrar", read the checklist and continue. You may be asked for a two-step verification code.
  3. Select "Click here to see Authorization Code". GoDaddy shows the code on screen and also emails it to the domain's registrant address.

.co.uk and .uk: there is no code. Unlock it first, then ask GoDaddy to change the IPS tag to ENOM. Some providers refuse the tag change while the domain is still locked, without saying why.

  1. Open the domain in your Domain Portfolio and choose "Transfer to Another Registrar".
  2. Enter the new IPS tag and select "Complete Transfer". No code is needed for a .uk.
Order the transfer with us
Put the domain into our transfer page. We confirm the price with you before anything is charged. A .co.uk or .uk moves free, because the UK registry doesn't charge for it.
Give us the transfer code
Once the price is agreed, we'll ask you for the code. (A .uk needs no code — the tag change is enough.)
We take it from there
We'll confirm when the transfer has started and again when it's complete. A .com usually takes 5–7 days. A .uk can arrive within minutes of the tag change, and usually within a day.

What GoDaddy charges to leave

GoDaddy's help pages don't mention a fee to leave. We never charge you to leave us.

Worth knowing

  • GoDaddy switches its own Domain Privacy off when you reveal the code, so your contact details may show publicly until the move finishes.
  • If you turned on its optional 60-day lock after a registration, transfer or contact change, the domain can't move until that ends. Domains bought in a bundle are locked for 120 days.
  • An expired domain can still be moved, but only until it goes into redemption.
