Before You Transfer
Transferring a domain to Gravity Host is straightforward. Here’s what you need to do before starting:
1. Point Your Nameservers to Gravity Host
Do this before starting the transfer. Log in to your current registrar and change your nameservers to:
ns1.gravityhost.co.ukns2.gravityhost.co.uk
This ensures your website and email continue working seamlessly once the transfer completes. If you already have a hosting account with us, your site will be live as soon as DNS propagates (usually a few hours).
2. Set Up Your Website and Email First
If you’re also moving your hosting to us, we recommend:
- Creating your hosting account and uploading your website files
- Setting up your email accounts in cPanel
- Testing everything works with the new nameservers
Once confirmed working, then start the domain transfer. This way there’s zero downtime.
3. Unlock Your Domain
Log in to your current registrar and turn off the transfer lock (also called registrar lock). This is usually in your domain settings or security section.
4. Get Your EPP / Auth Code
Request the authorisation code (EPP code) from your current registrar. This is a unique code that proves you own the domain and authorise the transfer. Most registrars show this in your domain settings, or you can request it via their support.
Starting the Transfer
- Go to Transfer a Domain
- Enter your domain name
- Enter the EPP/auth code
- Click “Start Transfer”
The transfer will be submitted to your current registrar for approval.

What Happens During the Transfer
- Your website and email stay live throughout (as long as nameservers are pointed to us)
- Your current registrar may send a confirmation email — approve it to speed things up
- 1 year is added to your domain expiry date
- You’ll receive an email from us when the transfer completes
