How Domain Renewal Notifications Work
To ensure you never lose your domain, Gravity Host sends automatic renewal reminders before your domain registration expires.
When You'll Hear From Us
Here’s what to expect as a renewal comes up:
- About 30 days before — your renewal invoice appears in your account, so you can pay early if you like, and pay your domain and hosting together.
- 7 days before — an email with a direct payment link, plus a text message if we have your mobile number.
- The day before — a final email and text reminder.
- If it’s still unpaid — we keep reminding you for a few days after the renewal date, then weekly.
Customers on automatic payments are charged at the 7-day point instead of being reminded. For .com and similar extensions, our registrar also sends its own renewal notices, as the domain rules require.
What Happens If You Don't Renew?
It depends entirely on the extension, and the differences are bigger than most people expect — so we publish the exact timeline for every extension we sell on our domain pricing page.
- .co.uk, .org.uk and .uk — Nominet give you 90 days to renew at the ordinary price, and there is no restore fee at all. For the first 30 days after expiry the website and email keep working; after that they stop until it’s renewed.
- .com, .net, .org, .app, .io and .shop — 30 days to renew normally. After that it enters redemption, and getting it back costs a restore fee on top of the year’s renewal.
- .eu and .pl — no grace period at all. Redemption begins the day the domain expires, and the site and email stop that day.
- .de — no grace period either. It goes into redemption the day it expires, and for 30 days only you can get it back, with a restore fee on top of the year’s renewal.
Redemption is expensive because the registry makes it expensive — it is a manual recovery, not a late payment. It is the registrar’s and registry’s charge, not ours, and we price it as close to what it costs us as card fees allow. Renewing on time avoids every penny of it, which is why we remind you more than once.
If a domain is never recovered it is eventually released and anyone can register it.
How to Renew
Every renewal notification includes a payment link. You can pay by:
- Card payment — Click the payment link in your email or log in to your billing page
- Bank transfer — Use the bank details provided in your account
- Automatic billing — Set up auto-pay in your account to never miss a renewal
Already Renewed?
If you've already paid, you can safely ignore the reminder. Our system checks for payment before sending each notification, so you won't receive unnecessary messages.
