Web application hosting platform

A web application hosting platform with one flat yearly price

You have built a web app and it needs somewhere to live: the code, a database, a domain, email, SSL and backups. Gravity Host is a UK hosting platform that gives you all of that on one account you control, for a price that does not move with your traffic.

15 GB hosting: £45 for your first year, then £75 a year. No charge per request, per build or per person.

The short answer

Where should you host a web application?

It depends on what the app is built with. A PHP or Laravel app with a database runs well on a hosting platform like Gravity Host: one UK account with the web server, MariaDB databases, email, SSL certificates, cron jobs and daily backups included, at a fixed yearly price. A Next.js app that renders on the server belongs on a platform built for serverless functions, such as Vercel.

  • Price: £45 for the first year, then £75 a year, for 15 GB. Not metered by requests, builds or seats.
  • Runs: PHP 5.6 to 8.5 and MariaDB 11.4, with cron, SFTP and Git. Node.js and Python apps run too.
  • Resources: 2 CPU cores, 2 GB of memory, 85 requests at the same instant and a 1 TB bandwidth allowance per account. Every limit is listed below.
  • Where: UK servers, run by a London company, with UK support by message or ticket.

Check the fit first

Who this is for, and who it is not for

Gravity Host is cPanel hosting on UK servers that we run. That suits a great many web apps and does not suit some. Better to know which you have before you order.

A good fit

  • PHP apps, including Laravel, Symfony and CodeIgniter, and anything you wrote yourself.
  • An app with a database: a client portal, booking system, invoicing tool, CRM, shop or internal dashboard.
  • An API behind a mobile app or a front end that needs a database and scheduled jobs.
  • A static front end from Astro, Hugo or a Next.js static export, with a PHP back end beside it.
  • Several small apps on one account, each on its own domain or subdomain.

Not a fit

  • Next.js with server rendering, edge or serverless functions. Use a platform built for it, such as Vercel.
  • A preview deployment for every pull request. You can keep a staging copy here, set up by hand.
  • Docker, containers or root access. That is a VPS or a container platform.
  • PostgreSQL or Redis. Neither is available here; the database is MariaDB.
  • Long-running workers and WebSocket servers that must stay up as their own process.
  • Sudden traffic far beyond 2 CPU cores and 2 GB of memory. Your app runs on one UK server; it does not scale out by itself.

Weighing us against Vercel in particular? We have written a side-by-side comparison using the figures on Vercel's own site.

What you are trying to do

Everything an app needs, with the real limit beside it

Each of these is included in the plan price. None of them is an add-on.

You needHow it works hereThe limit
Put the app onlineUpload over SFTP or with the File Manager in your browser, or push with Git Version Control in cPanel. A site that builds to static files can arrive by GitHub Sync every hour.No build service: you build on your own machine or in your own pipeline and upload the result.
A databaseCreate MariaDB 11.4 databases (MySQL-compatible) in cPanel and manage them in phpMyAdmin. They run on the same server as your app.As many as fit in your storage. No separate database bill.
A domainRegister one with us, transfer one in, or point one you keep elsewhere. Add subdomains for an API or a staging copy..co.uk is £10 a year and .com is £15 a year, billed separately from hosting.
EmailMailboxes and forwarders at your domain, plus a way for the app to send its own mail. Or keep Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and host only the app here.Unlimited addresses. Mailboxes share your plan's storage.
SSLEvery domain and subdomain gets a free certificate that renews itself. There is nothing to configure.Standard certificates. Bring your own if you need a particular one.
BackupsThe whole account is backed up every day: files, databases and email. Restore any of them yourself from cPanel.Daily, not continuous. Take a manual copy before a risky release.
Scheduled jobsCron jobs in cPanel, for queues, reports, clean-ups and reminder emails.Jobs share your account's 2 CPU cores and 2 GB of memory with the app.
A staging copyA subdomain with its own folder and database. Try the release there, then repeat it on the live site. You set it up and keep it in step. Nothing is created for each pull request.

How fast, and what to click

From payment to a running app in three steps

Nobody has to approve you or set anything up by hand. If you have deployed to a server before, there is nothing new to learn.

  1. Order the plan

Choose 15 GB hosting and add a domain, or use one you already own. Your account is created as soon as the payment clears.

  2. Open cPanel

We email you a link that signs you in. From your account, open cPanel, pick your PHP version and create a database and its user.

  3. Upload and go live

Send your files over SFTP or Git, set your app's database details and point the domain here. The SSL certificate arrives automatically.

Tested, not assumed

What we ran before saying it works

On 10 October 2026 we set up a fresh test site on one of our own accounts and tried each of these for real, then removed it.

  • PHP 8.1, 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5: switched one site between them in cPanel and each answered. Versions back to 5.6 are installed for older apps.
  • A new Laravel 13 app: installed with Composer in 13 seconds, ran its database migrations, its scheduler and a queue job, and served its first page.
  • MariaDB 11.4: created a database and user in cPanel, then created a table and read and wrote rows from PHP, including JSON columns.
  • A Node.js 20 app and a Python 3.12 app: created with cPanel's app setup tools, and each served a page. Node.js 18 and Python 3.9 to 3.11 are installed too.
  • SSL: the new site had a trusted Let's Encrypt certificate within about five minutes, without us asking for it.
  • Git 2.56 and WP-CLI are on the server. Composer is a single file you download; it ran without changes.

Tried and not available: PostgreSQL and Redis. If your app needs either, this is not the right home for it.

Composer, Artisan and Git need SSH access, which is switched on when you ask. Over 200 open-source apps install in one click as well, if part of what you need already exists. See the open-source apps you can run here.

The exact numbers

What every account gets

Most hosts say "plenty" or "unlimited". These are the real ceilings on every Gravity Host account, whichever storage size you choose, with what each one means.

Per-account limits, as cPanel reports them, 10 October 2026
LimitYou getIn plain English
Processor2 CPU coresTwo things can be worked on at full speed at once. We measured it: two busy tasks ran twice as fast as one, and four ran no faster than two.
Memory2 GBShared by everything running in your account at that moment. A typical PHP request uses a small fraction of it.
Requests at the same instant85Up to 85 visitors can be mid-request at the very same moment. Most requests finish in a fraction of a second, so this is far more than 85 people browsing.
Running processes100Web requests, cron jobs and anything you start over SSH, added together.
Disk speed200 MB a second, 2,048 operations a secondHow fast your account can read and write to the NVMe SSD storage.
Storage15 GB to 30 GB, by planApp files, databases and mailboxes share it. There is no limit on the number of files.
Bandwidth1 TB a monthAn allowance, not a meter: nothing is charged per gigabyte.
Database connections60 at once, per database userPlenty for one app. Give each app its own database user and each gets its own 60.
Websites, databases, mailboxesNo set numberAs many as fit in your storage.

Each account has its own limits, kept separate from every other customer's. If your app reaches one, it slows down or queues requests until there is room; you are not billed more. Your cPanel shows live usage against each limit, so you can see how close you are.

We use it ourselves

We run our own web apps on it

Gravity Host is part of GK Tools Ltd, a London software company. These run on the same hosting we sell, on the same servers, in daily use.

Invoicer

An invoicing app for small businesses, with customer accounts, a database, scheduled jobs and outgoing email, all on one hosting account.

Best eBikes UK

A catalogue and comparison site with a database of bikes behind it and jobs that run on a schedule to keep prices current.

This site's customer portal

Orders, card payments, domain registration and support tickets for Gravity Host itself. You will use it when you sign in to your account.

So you know before you ask

What we look after, and what stays with you

We look after the server and the hosting: the machine, the web server, the database server, mail delivery, backups and security patches. If any of those is at fault, we fix it.

Your app, its code and its data belong to you and are yours to maintain. We do not debug application code or write deployments for you. We will tell you what the server's logs show, which is often enough to find the cause.

Help yourself first

  • cPanel does most jobs without a ticket: PHP version, databases, cron, email, DNS and restoring a backup.
  • The status page shows whether the servers are up before you start looking for a bug.
  • A message or ticket reaches a UK person, Monday to Friday, for anything on our side of the line.

Moving an existing app? Migration of a standard cPanel account is included. For a custom setup, tell us how it is built and we will say what we can move and what you will need to redeploy.

The whole price

One yearly figure, whatever your traffic does

Every plan has the same features. You choose the storage, and you can change size at any time.

What is not in that price

  • Your domain name: £10 a year for .co.uk or £15 a year for .com, or bring your own.
  • More storage, if the app and its mailboxes outgrow 15 GB. Larger sizes are on the order page.
  • Work on your app. If you want us to build or change something, we quote before any work starts.

Questions developers ask us

How quickly can I start?

Your account is created as soon as the payment clears, and we email you a link to sign in. From there you open cPanel, create a database and upload your app. Point your domain at ns1.gravityhost.co.uk and ns2.gravityhost.co.uk, or keep your DNS where it is and add our records.

Which languages and versions can I run?

PHP is the main one: you pick the version for each site, from 5.6 up to 8.5. Databases are MariaDB 11.4, which is MySQL-compatible. Node.js 18 and 20 and Python 3.9 to 3.12 run through cPanel's app setup tools; we tested a Node.js 20 app and a Python 3.12 app on 10 October 2026 and both served pages. PostgreSQL and Redis are not available.

Can I host a Laravel app?

Yes. Choose a current PHP version in cPanel, put the app on a domain or subdomain whose folder is set to the app's public directory, create its database and add one cron job for the scheduler. We run Laravel this way ourselves.

Is Gravity Host an alternative to Vercel?

For a PHP app with a database, yes: it does the same job on one flat-priced account. For Next.js with server rendering, no. The Gravity Host vs Vercel comparison shows which fits.

Will my Next.js app run here?

A static export will: upload the built files, or connect them with GitHub Sync. Server rendering, edge functions and a preview for every pull request are what Vercel is built for, and we do not offer them. Our comparison with Vercel sets out which one fits which kind of app.

What are the limits?

Each account has 2 CPU cores, 2 GB of memory, 85 requests at the same instant, 100 running processes and a 1 TB bandwidth allowance. The plan size is your storage, shared between app files, databases and email, starting at 15 GB. Reaching a limit slows the app down; it never adds to your bill. The full table says what each number means.

Can I have a staging copy?

Yes. Add a subdomain such as staging.yourapp.co.uk in cPanel, give it its own folder and its own database, and deploy there first. It is a copy you set up and update yourself. WordPress sites also get a clone and staging tool in cPanel.

What does support cover?

The server, your account, databases, email, DNS and SSL: if one of those is not working, that is ours to fix. Your own code is yours, so we do not debug it, although we will tell you what the server logs show. Support is by message or ticket with a UK person, Monday to Friday. Most things you can do yourself in cPanel without waiting for anyone.

Can I leave later?

Yes. There is no long contract and hosting has a 30-day money-back guarantee. Your files and databases are standard formats you can download at any time and run on any other host. Domain names are billed separately from hosting.
